Thursday, July 7 at 7.00 pm at Folkestone History Resources Centre, Folkestone Library
Inspired by Russell Burden’s “Circulations” – a water-worn historical assemblage - Andrew Richardson of Canterbury Archeological Trust and Lesley Hardy of Canterbury Christ Church University will tell the story of some objects found on the foreshore beneath the Roman Villa, describing their origin and use and how they came to be there.
“Circulations” is a 400 mm circle of 1000 sea worn objects ranging from a modern “I make a difference” wristband to a Romano-British glass cobalt bead, all found on a small stretch of East Wear Bay foreshore, Folkestone, over a period of 365 days.
The installation will be in the Folkestone History Resources centre for 3 months from June 25th as part of the Folkestone Triennial Fringe and the programme of A Town Unearthed: A Community Archaeology Project for Folkestone. It is sponsored by Kent County Council’s “Treasurers Revealed” project.
