Dear Artist/Commissioner
THE LIBERTY KENT PUBLIC ART AWARD 2011 – TOTAL PRIZE £15,000
Deadline for nominations: Friday 2 September 2011
I write to invite and encourage you to nominate your favourite piece of public art for the Liberty Kent Public Art Award 2011. The Kent County Council Arts Development Unit, in conjunction with Liberty Property Trust UK, will be co-ordinating the call for nominations for this year’s award.
The Liberty Kent Public Art Award (formerly the Rouse Kent Public Art Award), is a collaboration between Liberty Property Trust UK and Kent County Council, who are development partners at Kings Hill Business Park (www.kings-hill.com).
The purpose of the Award, now in its 17th year, is to focus public attention on the benefits of public art and to stimulate the commissioning of new work in Kent. The Award presents a unique opportunity for commissioners, artists and local communities to nominate public art commissioned and completed in the County between 1 April 2009 and 2nd September 2011. Examples of past winners can be found at www.libertykentpublicartaward.co.uk, together with the online nomination form.
The prize money totals £15,000 and will be divided between the artist of the winning work (£7,000), the commissioner of the winning work (£5,000), and the runner up artist (£3,000). The winning commissioner will host the Rouse chair, designed by Kentish craftsman, Will Glanfield until the next award. The winner will be requested to demonstrate how the award money will be used to further the skills of the artist and to facilitate further commitment to public art practice and future commissioning.
