Leas Lift 125years Celebration

Posted in Charity News, Exhibitions & Events, On the coast, Support Groups on September 3rd, 2010 by admin – 0 Comments

After a year full of uncertainty about the future of the Leas Lift which was a concern to Folkestonians and Victorian engineering enthusiasts across the country - the new Leas Lift management will now be celebtating its 125 year birthday over the weekend of Sat 18th and Sun 19th Sept.

A number of local artists, entertainers and other events are planned including a Vintage car rally on Sunday at the lower arena.

If you would like to support this celebration weekend as a performer, face painter, acoustic band - please do contact Eamomn to get details (all support will be in a voluntary capacity as unfortunately the Leas Lift will not be able to make any payments).

Eamomn is also seeking any employees of the Lift going back through the years as they would be welcome to come along and tell their story and perhaps have a reunion.

Contact Eamonn for full details and to arrange times etc. Eamonn44@hotmail.com

FHODS - Palace of Varieties

Following a successful series of compilation shows over many years, Maxine Burrows has devised the ‘Palace of Varieties’, which leads the audience from the formation of Music Hall in the 1850s through to the spectacular Variety Shows of the 1950s and 60s. Starting from Music Hall’s humble beginnings, the cast entertain us with a typical night ‘in the pub’, followed by variety acts skilfully selected to display the cast’s talent – a ‘dog act’, a ‘tightrope walker’ and a Les Dawson sketch to mention a few. All held together with the brilliant musical direction of Richard Baulch. This is a show not to be missed!
