Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), and RCAN member, Action with Communities in Rural Kent, announce the launch of this year’s COMMA fund.

COMMA, the Community Aggregates Fund, uses money from Defra’s Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) to address the impacts of aggregate extraction on the environment and local communities. COMMA supports community-based projects in 23 qualifying areas in England including Kent and Medway.

Almost any community activity can be supported and the Fund offers a fantastic opportunity to get the support needed to make a real difference for local people. Grants of between £3,000 and £20,000 are available in each county.

Miranda Hayes, Deputy Director of Action with Communities in Rural Kent said ‘The COMMA Fund has supported a diverse and exciting range of community initiatives which have made a real difference to Kent and Medway communities.  In 2010, we look forward to working with Defra to continue this successful programme.’

A full list of the national 2009 project awards is available on the ACRE website. These include: reducing the carbon footprint of a community hall, improving access to a play area, provision of allotments and restoration of a Motte and Bailey!
